Catesby Tunnel with our Ferrari F12... oooh the sound

December 17, 2021

What would our Ferrari F12 Sound like going through the new Catesby Tunnel, once the longest train tunnel in Europe and now a testing facility for Cars, Motorcycles, Bicycles and anything with wheels. We take a listen.

Built in 1897 the tunnel was once the longest in Europe, connecting the South to the North. Shut in 1966 the tunnel has been Banbury's secret until it's reopening this year.

Now revived from decades of decline we showed our faces at the open day this week, keen to see and hear the tunnel back at its best.

As specified by one of the partners Subaru, the tarmac from end to end has a 3 mm tolerance with no camber and is a total of 2.7km long.

Ideal for aerodynamic testing where the environment is 'static' and can be engineered to suit almost any medium required. For us sound is the key requirement.

At base camp the garages have all the facilities to work on the cars before and after each run.

Turntables feature in both garages and at the end of the tunnel to quickly and easily rotate the vehicles ready for the another run.

Once echoing from the sound of powerful Victorian Steam Locomotives our Ferrari F12 with Titanium exhaust made the tunnel sing again to a different tune. We look forward to testing its acoustics more soon.
