The R56’s OE catback system comprises a secondary catalyst, centre resonator and chambered rear silencer, resulting in a muffled and unsatisfactory driving experience.
QuickSilver began producing MINI exhausts in 1973, and R56 exhausts in 2007. Our current BM156S is the result of 45+ years MINI experience, and 12+ years specifically on the R56.
Testing Extensive testing revealed that the restriction comes from the catalyst and silencing, not the bore. Testing in various states of tune revealed no restriction in power, post catalyst, between 2.25 and 2.75”. This is also determined by the bore and profile of the front flange, which will reduce the diameter to 2.25” at the flange regardless of the size thereafter.
Design So we re-wrote the rule book, retaining a 2.25” ID but focusing on minimal restriction from the pipeline and silencer. QuickSilver’s system retains a full bore right to the tips, whereas the original steps down below 2” for this section. The result is a phenomenal tone with control available at motorway speeds.
QuickSilver’s R56 exhaust can be found on some of the world’s most powerful MINI’s, including Craig Wilcox’s multi SCCA / Prosolo winning time attack race car.
